Prison Life by Nathan Rushforth
Here I sit in this cell all alone,
For the next few years
This will be my home.
Everyone here has committed a crime,
And so as a punishment
They will do the time,
For a few hours a day,
We can walk the prison grounds
Believe me when I say,
This is not as good as it sounds.
We can watch T.V.
Or have a game of pool
But after those 2 hours
It’s back to the lock-up rule.
I can have 2 visitors
Once a week,
But when they go home,
I sometimes sit and weep
I miss my freedom
So much in here,
My days are filled
With frustration and fear.
There are bars on the windows
And on the doors,
And there are no carpets on the floors.
Our meals are passed
Through a hatch in the door
By the wardens
Who walk the prison floors.
Well it’s 10 o’clock now
And time for lights out.
I lay here in the darkness
Listening to the inmates shout,
I dream of the day
When I will be free,
And prison life will be behind me.
