Bradford Summer Camp 2016

Bradford Summer Camp 2016

Prison! Me? No Way! (PMNW) attended the Bradford summer camp on Monday 15th Friday 19th Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd of August 2016.

For these 2 weeks, young people attend Bradford College and participate in a number of workshops and visits.  Week 1 – Monday 15th Malc and Gerry (PMNW staff) facilitated the Street Scene workshop discussing Antisocial Behaviour through role play with a life size Street set!! Friday Malc and Gerry presented the Prison Life Workshop, discussing topics around what it is like living as a prisoner amongst other criminals, the regime, and loss of dignity.  They too highlight the affects a prison sentence has on an individual both short term and long term and how becoming a prisoner affects their families and the community. Gerry and Malc engaged with a total of 340 young people and had a brilliant time.

Week 2 -Monday 22nd Graham (PMNW volunteer) and Gerry participated in the Street Scene, with Julie (PMNW staff) and Jane (PMNW staff) facilitating the Prison Life Workshop. Concluding with on Tuesday 23rd with Graham and Gerry on the Street Scene and Malc and Jane delivering the Prison Life Workshop, both days being a fantastic and thought provoking success and engaging with 330 young people, that’s 680 young people off the streets and learning about how they need to stay safe or face what the consequences are for them if they choose not to.

This is the 5th Year PMNW have been involved at the Summer Camp and as always the hospitality was fantastic and great fun had by all.  Thank you so much to the Bradford Summer Camp team for inviting us along!
